Accessibility Standards

Hello, welcome to our page on accessibility! There are a lot of facets to this so we’ve broken them down into sections. We find it’s more helpful to be as specific as possible, so there’s a lot of info here, apologies if that is overwhelming.

Mobility

Please note that because of budget, availability, and architectural restraints, our current building does not have an ADA accessible bathroom. Once our lease is up we hope to be able to move somewhere that is fully accessible.

✷ The space is on the first floor, with no steps, but there is a ramp. The ramp is 37in wide at its narrowest point and 37in long. Ramp has an 8 degree incline.

✷ All doorframes are 36in wide

✷ There is a grab bar attached to the bathroom directly to the right of the toilet. Photo attached.

✷ There are numerous places in the space to sit (for everyone to sit…we prioritize comfort and fat-friendly seats) and you are welcome to do so for as long as you’d like.

✷ Most merchandise is accessible from a seated position, but we also have grabbers available

COVID and Respitory

✷ Masks (KN95 or better) are required at all times in the shop. Free masks always available by the door!

✷ We have 2 air purifiers running (Coway Airmega AP-1512HH); the space is 750sqft so this allows for over 4x air changes per hour.

✷ We cap all workshops at 15 people

Sensory

✷ We do not use fluorescent bulbs or harsh overhead lighting

✷ There is a washing machine in the shop that we use occasionally and it can make the space smell like laundry, but it’s not a very strong smell. There is an air freshener in the bathroom as well. Scroll down to see our quiet/scent-free hours.

✷ We play quiet music, but earplugs are offered at the front for anyone easily overwhelmed

We have a shop dog, Bug! He is 25lbs, very chill and happy to be softly pet, but will also ignore you if you ignore him. Please call when you are outside if you’d like us to put him away before you come in.

✷ We have a bin of stim toys on the coffee table that you are welcome to use. These are disinfected daily.

Transit/Parking

✷ We do not have a parking lot, it is street parking only. There are usually plenty of open spaces, but if you need one right in front of the shop, feel free to give us a call and we will move our car so that you can park close!

✷ We are one block away from two bus stops: Cherokee @ Compton WB and Gravois @ Cherokee EB/WB

Deaf/HoH

✷ We currently don’t have the funds to hire interpreters for workshops, but instructions are always also printed

✷ Any film screenings will always have subtitles

✷ Unfortunately, we (the owners who work the counter) don’t know ASL, but are happy to communicate over written message
